The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) will on Thursday, July 23, 2026, hold the fourth edition of the Lateef Jakande Memorial Lecture in Lagos as part of efforts to promote informed discourse on Nigeria’s democratic process and electoral system.

The lecture, scheduled for 9:00 a.m. at the Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, is themed: “The Media, INEC, Voters and the Path to Credible Elections.”
Former Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, will chair the event, while Prof Sylvester Odion Akhaine of the Department of Political Science, Lagos State University, will deliver the keynote lecture.
Lagos State Governor, BabajideSanwo-Olu, is the Special Guest of Honour.
Instituted in memory of the Guild’s pioneer President and first civilian Governor of Lagos State (1979–1983), the annual lecture provides a platform for robust engagement on issues of national importance while celebrating the enduring legacy of the late Alhaji Lateef Jakande.
The Standing Committee of the Nigerian Guild of Editors invites media practitioners, public office holders, members of the diplomatic community, academics, civil society organisations, the private sector, students and other stakeholders to attend the event and contribute to discussions on advancing credible elections and democratic governance in Nigeria.
